Good News, Bad News

Good News: I got in touch with Keurig and they sent me a new coffee brewer and new coffee samples and coupons for free K-cups. I am very impressed with their service. I received my new brewer last week, before the first big snow storm. Just in time!

Bad News: The radon results came back. Anything over 4 piC/L is very bad. Our test said we had 28.8 piC/L.   I guess I know what I will be spending my tax refund on.

Good News: The snow plows finally got through our street last night (3 days after the storm finished). We still can’t see pavement, but at least the road is not as rutted. I can’t drive my car yet though because it is still too slick – just hard packed snow - and the crews didn’t apply salt or sand. I don’t think they can spare salt/sand on the residential streets since they are running out.

Bad News: The snow plows pushed a lot of heavy snow into my driveway that I will need to shovel out. There is also a blizzard forecast starting tonight but snow is supposed to start around noon. We had 22 inches during the last storm. We may have another 6 – 12 inches today and tonight.

Good News: I haven’t been into the office since last Wednesday.

Bad News: I can’t find my cell phone. I hope I didn’t lose it in the snow. I don’t remember using it since I left the office Wednesday night, so I am hoping I left it on my desk.

Good News: We have electricity.

Good News: I have enjoyed listening to audio books while I shovel.  I finished Game Change, the story of the 2008 election, written by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin.  Hard to tell how much of it was true, but very interesting.  Yesterday I started listening to The Girl Who Played With Fire, by Stieg Larsson.  This is the sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.  I really enjoyed the first book and so far this second book seems just as good.

Bad News: I am sick of shoveling.

Good News: I have definitely decided that I will move to a warmer climate when I retire.

Bad News:  Spring has never felt so far away.

  1. The goods just outnumbered the bads... by a narrow margin! Spring will come again, and summer too.

  2. It is strange for us in upstate NY that we keep missing these storms. We are usually buried every time. Still, any storm where you keep your electricity is a good storm.

How do you take care of the radon problem? That is scary stuff.

  3. e - Yes, you are right, there was more good news. I hadn't paid attention when I was writing this. I must be starting to get over the bad mood I have been in over the past couple days.

8thdayplanner - I have read that the radon problem can be fixed by venting the gas out of the house. Of course that will have to wait until the weather gets a little better. I am just amazed that there is no requirement in Virginia that homes be tested before they are sold. I just happened to read an article in the paper and thought maybe it would be a good idea to check.

And let the winter come and go
And all shall be well again, I know.

I think Virginia got all of Ontario's snow.

  5. Camlin - Ha! Yes, we shall be well again, but it will take an awful lot of shoveling. If only we could send it all back to Ontario!
